Before purchase 3rd party lens... ask the supplier about the mount of the lens do it support your current camera brand mount or not.
The supplier will give you an answer... |

I suggest for your friend's A100 to get the Sigma and not the Tamron. Why? Because the Sigma has HSM and the Tamron relies on the focusing motor of the camera body. The A100 is known to have the least powerful AF motor in the whole alpha line-up, so I think the Tamron will seriously suffer from a lack of focusing speed, if coupled to the A100.
The Tamron is cheaper and also reputedly has slightly better image quality compared to the Sigma.... So really, it is up to your friend if he / she wants more image quality & cheaper price or a better focusing speed.
I have the Sigma 70-200 HSM version. If your friend wants to try this lens. Can contact me. |

It is supremely fast..... Try it and you will be hooked. Can ask your friend to join us for TT now and then to test out the Sigma on his A100. I'm eager to know how it performs on that body as well.
Hahaha.... Gerry tried it last night and he appears happy with it. But that was on an A700 which has the double cross sensors that works better with F2.8 or bigger aperture lenses (that's why I'm so anal about F2.8 lenses...) |
